Wedding Ceremonies in Italy

Civil Ceremonies in Florence are held in the City Hall of Florence, which is the Palazzo Vecchio (1322) located in one of the Main squares, Piazza Signoria. The Ceremony is held in the Sala Rossa, decorated in a rich Renaissance style. Ceremonies may also be held in the city halls of other Tuscan towns. A translator will be provided.

Religious Ceremonies may be held in many of the churches in Florence and the surrounding countryside. From Medieval to Renaissance churches, large or small, we will find the perfect church for you.  We will help you contact an English-speaking priest, so that you may speak to him as often as you like before the ceremony to get to know each other before your wedding. Ceremonies may also be held at a Protestant church, a synagogue or outdoors in the countryside, etc. depending on your religion.

For a Civil Wedding Ceremony: Palazzo Vecchio Requirements in Florence Italy
1) Contact the Italian Consulate nearest you ...

For A Religious Catholic Wedding Ceremony in Florence Tuscany Italy:
1) You will need the same documents required for the civil ceremony to give to the priest where the ceremony will be performed in order to register the marriage with the city hall.

2) Contact your local priest who will begin preparations for your marriage and will arrange for your Pre-marriage Course and document and your Free - to - Marriage Document (Bans of Marriage) which usually consists of a questionnaire which witnesses sign as well.

3) You will need your Baptismal and Confirmation Certificates.

4) Revision of the above documents, signed and stamped by the diocese or bishop in a form or letter, giving permission for the marriage to take place in Italy and outside of your parish church. ...

5) Preparations for the ceremony will be arranged together.

Other Religions: Ceremonies for other religions or garden weddings may also be held in Italy. However, they have no legal status, because Italy does not believe in the separation between church and state. The marriage is blessed and performed as a regular service. For legal purposes, we usually suggest that the couple have a simple civil ceremony before leaving the US or in Florence at the Palazzo Vecchio.
